The Energy Estimators are a series of web-based energy awareness tools developed by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). These tools include a tool that estimates diesel fuel used in the production of selected crops across common tillage systems in your area, one that estimates and compares energy-related costs of different nutrient management systems, one that focuses on energy associated with different irrigation systems, and a fourth tool that provides recommendations and estimated energy savings in three different types of animal housing. These tools are intended to give you an idea of the magnitude of energy savings that you could incur under different management systems.

The results generated by these tools are estimates based on NRCS models and are illustrative of the magnitude of savings possible. They are not intended to provide precise estimates for your particular farm: actual results would largely depend on your local conditions and operations, such as predominant soil types, rainfall, slope of land, machinery used, etc.

Please visit your local NRCS office for additional assistance.
